As a strong believer in continuing education and keeping up with the latest trends, Lisa has carved out an enviable career in the beauty industry specializing in something near to her heart. A philanthropic soul, Lisa devotes most of her talents to those afflicted by cancer.
Though she has found great success in the industry as a make-up artist for the Estee Lauder Special Events Regional Traveling Team and participated in the New York City Saks Fifth Avenue Fashion Show Sponsored by “VOGUE” Magazine, Lisa’s specialty is in the art of air brushing and para-medical camouflage makeup. This is her true passion.
Lisa has created a unique career path for herself that combines her great talent with her passion for helping others through para-medical camouflage therapy. Her greatest love is mentoring women, children, and men on camouflage and makeup application. A dedicated philanthropist, Lisa has volunteered for many charity programs such as the Multiple Sclerosis Society, The Epilepsy Foundation, The American Cancer Society, and many others. Lisa has been affiliated with the “Look Good, Feel Better” program, teaching cancer patients skin care, hair care, nail care, and makeup application.
As a person who devotes much of her career to cancer patients and others who have been disfigured, Lisa come across some stories that have particularly touched her. This one in particular resonates with Lisa. “One of my favorite stories was the day I received a phone call from "The American Cancer Society" asking me if I could help a women who had skin cancer. Her youngest son was getting married and her face was disfigured from all the surgeries due to the depth of the spread of the cancer. Part of her nose was removed and she was left with an open disfigured wound on her chin. She was frail from the chemo and radiation and for herself and for her family she needed to feel like herself again. I had a double therapy session with her and not only did she leave looking beautiful on the outside but she was glowing on the inside. The smile on her face said it all. I spoke with her after the wedding and she had the most amazing time. That's what it's all about!”
Lisa got her start in this unique field after being inspired by her Aunt’s plight with breast cancer. Lisa decided early on to give back. As a person who loved makeup and enjoyed the changes it made in people as a young girl, her father would tell her stories of her aunt who suffered from breast cancer. “He told me what she went through. My dad used to go down to the pediatric unit and give puppet shows for the kids. He said he liked to make them smile. Unfortunately my aunt did not survive. She left 2 young kids and a husband.”
This planted the seed for dedicating her self to helping others. Her reputation grew after she volunteered a few times with the American Cancer Society. Soon, the word spread as she began to receive phone calls from the organization asking for her expertise in helping disfigured cancer patients feel better about their appearance.
Her career began like many other makeup artists but later transformed into what it is today. She took cosmetology courses at Boses while she was in high school. “While going to college I worked as an assistant hairdresser and a makeup artist. I worked my way up to from assistant to hairdresser. My passion was makeup though. That was the beginning of when I new I could incorporate the skills I learned from school as well as my personal life's skill class to help others. Over the years I loved learning and I have such a passion for what I do that I want to give my very best to everyone I see. I continue to educate myself and update my skills in any way I can.”
Since becoming a member of YBN, Lisa has a lot to say about YBN. “YBN has the best tips of the week. The detail in the literature has educated me on so many levels. Your success stories have given me so much self-motivation and enthusiasm. YBN has given me so much insight. It's a one-stop shop. I look upon YBN as the Encyclopedia of the beauty industry.”
