YBN Members Are Getting Noticed!
by: Shannon Wells
Our members are getting noticed! YBN Member Ivette Figueroa was featured in an article highlighting Hispanic Entrepreneurs. Check out this excerpt published in the East Orlando Sun Newspaper, 10/5/06!
“Ivette Figueroa, a New York native with a Puerto Rican heritage worked as a financial consultant until she met her husband, Ramon — owner of Ray’s Hair Cutting Studios on Curry Ford Road for 20 years. He helped her ignite a passion for cosmetology and encouraged her to live her dream.
Four years after the two met, Figueroa enrolled in cosmetology school and is now an award-winning hair stylist. She plans to open her own salon — A New Hue — in Lake Nona by the end of 2007.
Inspired by those who encouraged her to find her own talent, she focused her business plan on teaching up-and-coming hair stylists how to find theirs. During the last two years Figueroa has cut back on clients to further educate herself.
“My mission now is to mentor other stylists who don’t realize the talent they have. I want to allow them to live that dream,” she said.
Figueroa plans to offer two-year internships, where new hair stylists will be trained not only in hair but in business savvy.
“This way they’ll have a place to grow. I plan to teach them everything they need to know regarding hair and business, that way they’ll be prepared to open their own business. This is my way of paying back.””
